The Cutting Edge – January 2004

March 31st - Deadline for Trade Fair Signup

Members have until March 31 to sign up to exhibit in the following two trade fairs in which the Association will sponsor a pavilion:

Expo AMPIMM 2004, Mexico City June 23-26
Woodmex 2004, Birmingham, England, October 10-13

As the wood processing industry continues to consolidate and downsize here in the United Sates, WMMA®'s International Business Development Committee is on the lookout for member sales opportunities outside of the US.

By Participating in the WMMA® Pavilion, you will reach the largest gathering of woodworking professionals to assemble within the venue countries during 2004. Both countries appreciate the value of US made equipment and offer other advantages unique to the US producer.

Why ExpoAMPIMM?

  • It is focused exclusively on woodworking equipment, cutting tools, accessories and supplies.
  • ExpoAMPIMM draws almost all Mexican dealers and major woodworkers in the Mexico City region.
  • It is the country’s only relevant fair in 2004.
  • The fair will be held in a state of the art facility approximately 20 minutes from the Mexico City commercial district.
  • ExpoAMPIMM 2004 has gained EUMABOIS support, ensuring a large contingent of European exhibitors and a large visitor turnout.
  • 150 companies occupying 6,000 – 7,000 sq. meters of exhibition space.
  • An anticipated 5,000 woodworking professionals including the area’s largest wood product producers and key dealers.
Why Woodmex?

  • Excellent track record for bringing in woodworking professionals from the UK and Ireland.
  • Woodmex is held alongside ASFI – the biannual exhibition of raw materials, furnishing, fittings, components and accessories for the furniture industry.
  • Woodmex 2002 statistics are solid with 15,000 professional trade visitors.
  • EUMABOIS support.
  • Macroeconomic indicators point to a recovery gaining strength. The Economist expects growth of 2.4% in 2004 and 2.0% in 2005, with inflation at 2.3% and 2.5%, respectively.
  • The British pound has appreciated 20% against the US dollar during the past 18 months, making our products increasingly affordable
  • In addition, recently the pound has fallen in value against the Euro, thus making European equipment relatively more expensive.
Why Exhibit in the WMMA® Pavilion?

  • Prime location.
  • Space cost to WMMA® members is being offered at a 20% discount.
  • Other services include:
    • Professional booth design • Freight consolidation options
    • Hotel packages • Organizing translators

This is the most efficient and cost effective way to make an impact in either market.

The WMMA® will have its own booth at both events, and members who want to share the booth can do so for $200. The fee entitles members to display literature, run product videos and/or work out of the booth. All participants will receive a summary of the event, a copy of the exhibition catalog and leads generated.

Remember, you must act by March 31. A sign up form is available on the Members Only Area of WMMA website (http://www.wmma.org/members/mpdf/2004FairForm.dot). If interested, please complete it and return to Harold Zassenhaus. Space will be allocated on a first come first served basis. For more information contact Harold: tel 301 652 0693; fax 301 986 1389; email: zemg@erols.com.
